Glad you made it home safe. I was kind of wondering why you hadn't posted after day 4, cause you did say 4 days. I would love to have been a bug on the tree when your hammock tent was going up and down. (chuckle) Your pictures are amazing quality. Thanks for them. Almost like being there. Can't wait for your next trip. IT worked! I got one of those gas burners ($18) at a chinese grocery store that uses butane ($2 for a cylinder that lasts 2 weeks). It’s 40% cheaper than hydro (april 2018 prices)!! It’s so cheap it ought to be against the law right Wayne? Privitization of hydro is going to be a major de-unionization, one of many public services to follow now that ontario is bankrupt. Oink oink. Too many piggies at the trough?

Re: Hydro One – Dirty Rotten Blood Suckers!

Hey i found the solution to the hydro one problem: VOTE DOUG FORD!

I can’t wait to see the results of privitization on this monstrosity. Rates are set to skyrocket anyways so get ready. We switched to gas for cooking, and put in more solar panels - they’re only 50 cents a watt now. Solar keeps getting cheaper versus grid just increasing. I know which business model i am going with.

Re: Hydro One – Dirty Rotten Blood Suckers!

Hey guys it’s me! I found the solution to the $6 million dollar man / hydro one problem: VOTE DOUG FORD. Bye bye blood suckers. Not sure if anyone still uses it but I thought I'd comment in case my story might help someone.

I had an issue with my local Hydro company. For 8 years I tried to get them to move my billing date from issuing the bill in the middle of the month to the beginning. Seems so simple. A customer on a fixed income wants all their bills to come in at the beginning of the month so they can all be paid at once and there would be no issue about non-payment due to money running out before the bill comes in.

I got every excuse in the book why moving my billing date was impossible. OEB had the city broken down into grids, too much paperwork to change one house to be billed on a different cycle, we can't do it.

After 8 years and a lot of wasted hours (over 2000 hours on the phone) I found out about the OEB (Ontario Energy Board) and how they set the rules these utility companies have to play by. So I opened up a complaint with them. In a month the OEB had the local Hydro company willing to work with me. This month I finally got my billing cycle reset to the beginning of the month.

This simple act could make a lot of difference to people on fixed incomes. Get all the bills in within the first week of the month when your check comes in, pay them all right away and you don't have to worry about over-spending and not having the money for your bills. So why are utility companies so attached to their grids they refuse to consider a simple act of human kindness? It wasn't like I wanted a discount. Or I was trying to avoid paying my bills. I just wanted my bill issue date moved so I got the bill 10 to 12 days earlier.

Now my fight moves onto Union Gas. They are hiding behind the same excuses. It seems changing my meter read date would cause issues for these little princess meter readers who drive around all day in company cars our high bills help pay for. Union Gas has the same issues as the Hydro companies. They want your money but won't work with you to make sure the bills come in when the customer has money. I swear the utility companies plan the worse possible billing cycles to make people late paying their bills so they can charge their precious interest. As if the bills are not high enough they have to play games with a customer trying to squeeze that extra few bucks out of each customer.

File complaints with OEB. Harass your utility company like they harass you. Make them move your billing date just for the fun of it. Why should you be a slave to their grid if another billing date would be better for you? Time to remind the utility companies we are people and not some ATM they can push buttons whenever they need cash.

Re: Hydro One – Dirty Rotten Blood Suckers!

I have been out of the country for two years and H one still bills me about 3000 $ a year even though my service was turned off. They say they are billing me for future service I may use some day and the amount is based on the average bill of the previous owner of the house I bought. So I am paying for a service that I don't use or have because they believe I may use it some day in the future and the amount I pay is based on what someone else allegedly used 3 years ago. This organization and the people carrying the water are criminals. They should not be fired they should be convicted for fraud, racketeering and many other things. They should serve time in prison and upon release do 4000 hours of community service installing solar panels and chopping firewood.

Re: Thinning the Forest at the Emily Trails – aka Money Grab!

You'll probably never respond to this. However I live in BC. I've been gathering information because I want to put a stop to this tyranny. I am a real single mom 365 24/7, I receive no child support and I live in CRD housing. I have received numerous eviction notices because Hydro demands I pay them. Electricity is essential, never mind trivial items like personal gadgets and PC's. What about heat, lights, hot water, and being able to cook. Despite this, the Canadian government doesn't consider Hydro an "Essential Service". This means they apparently have the right to bully us the customers and take away; what I consider our basic human right in todays society...electricity. It doesn't take a genius to understand how ridiculous it is.
"Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed."
- Mahatma Gandhi

Re: Hydro One – Dirty Rotten Blood Suckers!

if you were a Indian then your hydro is free

Re: Hydro One – Dirty Rotten Blood Suckers!

I hate Hydro One and their horse too.

Re: Hydro One – Dirty Rotten Blood Suckers!

I used to only read the horror stories about H1 in past couple of years, now I live it!I Moved this past November to the Meaford area and my hydro bill is at least TRIPLE what I paid in Etobicoke!!!!
WTF? Long story short his pal a master electrician charged us over $500. to replace the mast and his time which happened to be on a Sunday and no charge for double time thank God.
2 Hydro guys came and checked the wire which was not cut or damaged and they left within 15 to 20 minutes. Charge from Hydro for this? $900. for what I asked. For materials and time. I explain there were no materials. They'll send a detailed bill they say. They won't even say EXACTLY how much till I tell them if I'll involve my insurance company or not! Anything like this happen to anyone here? The only recourse is complain to their complaint dept. then to the Regie de electricité which charges $30. and says Hydro will have a lawyer present to cross exam any witnesses you may have. Doesn't seem like much of a way to go.

Re: Hydro One – Dirty Rotten Blood Suckers!

The OEB (Ontario Energy Board) allows the hydro provider to collect a deferred deposit. The 4-6 instalments are paid by the customer monthly to reach the total of the deposit. NO INTEREST is paid on this deposit to the customer until the total is reached, then the customer receives 2% below the rate the hydro company can get for the deposit. The customer has to wait a full year to receive the deposit against payment on their hydro bills, The interest on the deposit is not added to the total of the deposit each time interest is awarded. None of this information is given on hydro bills. So, if there are a thousand Ontarians paying a deposit of $400.00 in six months that is $400,000.00. Sure this total accumulated over six months without any interest payments to the customer, and after six months up to twelve months, before the customer can get the money returned, the customer receives 2% less interest than the hydro provider. The hydro companies are stealing money from Ontarians who need electricity. I have contacted my MPP, the minister of energy, the ministry's opposition critics, the OEB and my hydro provider about this matter. The OEB and the ministry don't like the fact that they have been caught at this horrible way to make money. CBC shows 'Marketplace' and 'Go Public' have been notified of this problem. To make it a provincial problem people need to contact all involved. Your MPP, the critics for energy in Queens park need to know that the calculation of interest only benefits the hydro company. People on low or fixed incomes could be far better off with the cash in their pocket or they could find a bank to give way more than 1% interest on your money.

Re: Hydro One – Dirty Rotten Blood Suckers!

http://cheaperontariohydro....

Re: Hydro One – Dirty Rotten Blood Suckers!

You know what its us canadians who r to blame we are all balless cowards who are taught at a very young age to be slaves to society and not stand up for ourselves think of it we all sit here and bitch but we still go thru our couches and pull out our savings to pay these outrageous prices think of what would happened if all of us just said NOPE SRY WE ARNT PAYING THIS CUT THE SHIT OFF if we stop paying. the company would soon realize OMG WE HAVE NO MONEY.
